4 Dangers to Be Aware of Driving on Unpaved Roads

Driving your vehicle on an unpaved road can be more than just an uncomfortable experience; doing so can cause damage to your vehicle, lead to accidents, and more. Unpaved residential driveways can be one of the areas of major concern. Here are four of the dangers you risk when driving on unpaved roads.

1. Experiencing Reduced Traction

When a road is unpaved, a vehicle will often have difficulty gaining traction. This can lead to skidding and loss of control over your car. If you’re driving in wet weather, the road will be even more slippery, raising the risk of losing traction. If a road has been paved previously but has been damaged, asphalt repairs can be done by an asphalt contractor, preventing further damage.

2. Getting Stuck in a Rut

Over time on an unpaved road or damaged driveway, ruts and potholes will develop, posing further risks to your vehicle. If a rut or hole is filled with water or debris such as leaves, you may fail to notice and avoid it. Another danger of a water-filled pothole is the possibility of hydroplaning. If it is not in your budget to resurface your asphalt, chipseal paving can be a cost-effective alternative.

3. Dealing With Debris

Unpaved roads are littered with loose rocks and debris. When you drive your car on an unpaved road or driveway, you will inevitably kick up some of this debris and potentially cause dents and dings to your vehicle. Loose stones could even damage your windshield or the undercarriage of your car, leading to costly repairs. Once you have asphalt paving on your driveway, preserve its appearance by having an asphalt contractor apply driveway sealcoating.

4. Causing Damage to Your Car

Ultimately, one of the greater concerns with any of these issues is the damage they will cause to your vehicle. Repeatedly driving on unpaved surfaces runs the risk of causing damage to your tires, wearing out your shocks and struts, impacting your alignment, and more. Repairing these issues can be expensive and cause even more problems if not addressed.

If your home has an unpaved driveway or other area that needs paving, rather than continuing to risk the issues listed above, reach out to an asphalt contractor for information on how to resolve your paving needs. According to Angi, with proper maintenance, your asphalt driveway could last from 15 to 30 years. APS Chip Sealing & Asphalt Paving LLC are experts in the field. No matter the size of your job, when you reach out to us, you’ll receive the same reliable and consistent service we’ve provided our customers for many years.
